Australia has announced a A$100 million Carbon Capture Institute

Australia has just announced that it plans to set up a A$100 million research institute to study carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) technologies. Please also read the related blog post on this initiative at Reuters. While a large body of recent research has been focused on CCS technologies (please refer to the IPCC Special Report on Carbon Capture and Sequestration and the references therein), there are still major challenges to be overcome including reducing the cost of capture, getting a better understanding of the trapping mechanisms and development of better monitoring techniques.
